Frederick Herman "Fred" Jones is the leader of Mystery Inc. and (more often than not) the driver of the Mystery Machine. He is something that fellow member Shaggy Rogers is not: brave, athletic and statuesque.
He is also known for building overtly complicated traps for ghosts and monsters over time [which are often (if not more than all of the time) accidentally triggered by Shaggy and/or Scooby, and having the group to split to search for clues, usually taking Daphne Blake and/or Velma Dinkley with him. His usual catchphrase is "Let's split up and search for clues."; sometimes it is "It looks like we got another mystery on our hands."
Interestingly, he can be scared and can get chickened out sometimes, such as freaking out upon seeing a demon ghost farmer after initially refusing a glass of warm milk from a close associate; he can be a loss for thoughts and clueless at times.
At the beginning of the level, Fred alongside the rest of the Mystery Inc. is investigating a case of a mummy that appears on the Mansion of his Uncle Arthur. Fred sends Scooby-Doo and Shaggy to investigate the abandoned Fairground, meanwhile, he, Daphne, and Velma look for clues on the mansion. Fred is the second one to be captured by a hidden trapdoor in the medieval room. He alongside Velma and Daphne manages to escape and reunites with Shaggy and Scooby on the tent of the fairground. They find Lord Vortech's mummy disguise and believe that Scooby and Shaggy solved the case.
- He is voiced by Frank Welker, who has voiced him in most Scooby-Doo media released since 1969.
