Buford Mad Dog Tannen is one of the non-playable characters in LEGO Dimensions, from the Back to the Future franchise.
Background[]
Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen was a town outlaw in Hill Valley, California, in the year 1885. He was the paternal grandfather of Irving "Kid" Tannen and Frank Tannen, the great-grandfather of Biff Tannen and the great-great-great-grandfather of Griff Tannen.
After Doc Brown crash landed the flying DeLorean Time Machine in Hill Valley (1885) after Lightning struck it in Hill Valley 1955 and after he sent the letter to Marty, it was revealed he had been shot dead in the back by him over a minimum of $80 dollars in a nearby graveyard. Marty then went back and successfully saved him.
Buford had a very short temper and a tendency to drool, thus earning him the nickname of "Mad Dog", a name he really hated. Buford did not seem to have any fixed address, and he and his gang of three rode around the Hill Valley area, robbing, shooting and bullying the local people. For some reason, he took a hatred to Seamus McFly, warning the Irish farmer not to enter the Palace Saloon ever again. Seamus did not take much notice of Buford, though, and did not fight with him. Upon meeting Marty, Buford mistook him for Seamus.
Little is known about Buford's family life, other than he would eventually have a son who would marry Gertrude and produce Kid Tannen.
Buford also had problems counting (for example, he did not know that "7" came after "6") and shared his great-grandson's penchant for mixed metaphors. At one point, he told Marty that "I'll hunt you and shoot you down like a duck" instead of "dog."
Dimensions Crisis[]
When Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle arrived at Hill Valley (1885) and helped Doc Brown he warned them about Mad Dog. After some time the trio come across Lord Vortech disguised as a cowboy and mistake him by Tannen, just when the real Bufford Tannen angrily kicked Seamus McFly out of the Palace Saloon because he called him by his allies. After he and other people saw Vortech's power, they fled in fear. He was later recruited by Lord Vortech to join his villain army.
Trivia[]
- He was portrayed by Thomas F. Wilson who played Biff and Griff Tannen in the previous two movies. In LEGO Dimensions, he is voiced by Liam O'Brien due to Thomas F. Wilson not being available to reprise the role during the game's development.
