Shanghai is a Mission: Impossible location, featured in LEGO Dimensions. This is based on Shanghai, a real life city that is located at eastern China.
Background[]
Shanghai, often abbreviated to Hu, is China's most populous city and the world's most populated city proper, located at the Yangtze River River in the eastern side of China. It is China's major global economic center, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2014.
The city played an important role in the nation's history as an administrative, shipping and trading town during the 19th Century and was one of five treaty ports that were forced open to foreign trade after China's defeat to the British during the Opium War and two treaties (Treaty of Nanking and Treaty of Whampoa in 1842 and 1844 respectively) saw the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and French Concession, while the city itself grew into a major economic and financial hub in Asia-Pacific in the 1930s as tread between China and Western countries flourished in that time period. However, shortly after the takeover of the Chinese Communist Party in 1949, trade was then limited to socialist countries, only for the city to be open to international trade once more by the economic reforms by Deng Xiaoping in the 1990s.
Today, the city is China's showcase of its booming economy and is well-known for the Lujiazui skyline, and museums and historical buildings, such as the Bund, Yu Gardens and the City God Temple. It is also the host of the annual Shanghai Fashion Week and houses the largest number of international schools in China. It is also the original home to the global banking group Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) located in the Bund which now houses the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
Mission: Impossible[]
Ethan Hunt and his crew (Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell among them) visited the city as a part of the mission to save his fiancee Julia from arms dealer Owen Davian and locate the mysterious Rabbit's Foot in Mission: Impossible 3.
