The Valkyrie first appears in the original Gauntlet as one of four playable characters, and was introduced as Thyra. She was blond with fair skin and clad in blue armor. She wielded a sword and shield and threw daggers. Thyra was a solid character choice, but with weak shot power and mediocre magic.

Retro Wreckage[]
Thyra and her friends got possessed by an "evil force" (possibly Lord Vortech) and got turned evil for a period of time. Gamer Kid rescued them and sent them back into their game.

Trivia[]
- In Norse mythology, a Valkyrie is a demi-goddess who acts as a priestess to the Norse god Odin and would choose warriors worthy to move on to Valhalla, and they were supposed to be seen by men when they're about to die in combat. They often wear armor in our world (Midgard) but wear dresses in Valhalla and Asgard.
- Thyra's name may have been stemmed from a real-life historical Danish woman named Thyra, the wife of Denmark's first historically recognized king, King Gorm the Old of Denmark, who led the country's army against the invading Germans in the 10th Century.
